Class Descriptions
MYSORE
Tuesday through Friday 6:30 - 10:00 am
Sunday 8:00 - 9:45 am
What are Mysore sessions? During Mysore practitioners enter the room at any time during the session, and begin their practice. Some are just in the beginning phases of learning Ashtanga, while others have been working for many years. While various levels of practice are happening simultaneously, there is an unspoken respect for each others space and process on the mat. The room is quiet aside from the distinguishable sound of the inhaling and exhaling breaths, which practitioners listen to intently as they move closer and closer toward meditation in motion. The teacher moves around the room to offer individual assistance and answer questions as they arise. It is a wonderful way to practice, as you are completely supported by the teacher, yet moving entirely at your own pace.
LED PRIMARY SERIES
Saturday 8:00 - 9:45 am,
Sunday 10:00 - 11:30 am
The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is offered in the same manner throughout the world today. The Primary Series is deliberate, practical, and comes from a long lineage of experiential research. It has been carried into this day by Pattabhi Jois and The Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute of Mysore, India. Practitioners and instructors around the world are working from this system and researching the benefits in depth. Led class is helpful in conjunction with the Mysore practice, as it gently reminds you of the precise order of breath and postures.
